Herd of Deer in Backyard!

About 4 o'clock this afternoon I was surprised to see a herd of young deer beyond the tree line. They were headed toward the basin area. Then, a few minutes later they came back and decided to pay a visit to Fawn's yard!

They stopped and sniffed Phillip's compost pile. Then they looked at me as I stepped outside with my camera and decided to move on.

But because Fawn was sleeping in the front hall she didn't even notice! i was so glad she wasn't outside because she would have followed them into the road-- oy vez!

Snowy Winter

Guess Mother Nature has decided to finallymake up for all those mild winters we've had! This was my commute home- slick roads and slipping wheels...

Chicken Soup

I haven't made chicken soup in a loooong time- and I'm talking about years, not months! But cold weather brings out my soup soul, and it wanted chicken soup. Sometimes I cheat when making soups and use store- bought stock, but not this time ! This soup was entirely made from scratch and I made it a chicken rice soup instead of a chicken noodle. Hubby's verdict-- delicious!

Welcome 2014!

Happy New Year! This year is starting out with our first snow storm of the year and we got hammered! If I were still a skier (which I gave up eons ago) I'd love this white powdery stuff, but for now it just makes driving treacherous. The worst part was last night when it started because it came fast. This morning it's clearing and the sun has come out- painting a pretty picture. Ed was anxious to use his snowblower!
