Abandoned Places- NVF Plant in Yorklyn

Abandoned places usually have a mysterious story. They can look ugly or menacing, or, as in the case of the abandoned NVF plant in Yorklyn, it can look oddly artistic in the midst of a bucolic setting.

While manufacturing created the American middle class, what's left behind when plants shut down is another story entirely. In the case of this site, it's slowly being demolished under a superfund order.

Part of this site sits on a historic area that was once known as the Garrett Snuff Mill.
Makes me wonder to what extent leaving behind toxic chemicals is this plant's legacy...

Avalon Beach Sunrise

In the midst of data analysis, I was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy a few days in Avalon-- mind you, this was a work commitment and we were worked hard every day-- all day!!! However, early mornings and late evenings were our own! So, on the last day I woke up at 6 AM and sat on the dark beach with my camera at the ready... waiting for the sun to rise...
It's amazing how light it actually gets before the sun even appears...
There it is! It was so exciting to see it finally appear... almost as if the sun plays peekaboo on the horizon...
I'm sure I must have watched a sunrise at some time in my life... just can't remember where or when...
 The colors were amazing...
What a simple pleasure! This energized me for the entire day, and I have resolved to do it again!
