Elizabeth's Visit

Elizabeth has been visiting us in Delaware and we've all been busy showing her some of our favorite places and having her help me run my errands!!! This morning we dropped off old comforters and a bag load of old sheets and towels at Faithful Friends...

Next, we went to the Christina Riverfront and checked out the Wilmington skyline and river...

Here she is in front of several old cranes used during the WW II shipbuilding boom. The Dravo company built small sips for the war effort and this riverfront was a booming ship building industry...

Then we stopped at Wilmington University's campus and picked up t-shirts and sweatshirts at the bookstore...

Last, but not least, it was stopping at the Hockessin Bookshelf to get a copy of The Fault in Out Stars so that E could do her summer reading.

That was Thursday morning :)! Next, off the Amish country...

Elizabeth in Cape May

On Friday we drove to Cape May to show Elizabeth the prettiest beach at the very end of New Jersey... tricky driving to Cape May on a Friday-- the traffic is usually horrendous on any road going to a beach, but we did OK and it took about an hour and forty-five minutes. So here we are, all settled on the beach at Camp Bishop...

One of our first priorities is always to set up a shady area since Lili and I burn easily. Lucky Libby tans, sigh! I hadn't been to the beach in the summer for several years, and it was really nice to be able to relax like this (even though I felt very guilty about not dedicating the day to dissertation work). 

Since we're in the middle of the World Cup in Brasil and the Dutch are doing well, I had to show my support!

I'd forgotten about Cape May's soft sandy beaches... and it was so peaceful...

The water glistened... and was reasonably warm!

After hours and hours, it was time to pack up in search of a Cape May t-shirt!

But first, a little Ben & Jerry's and a cup of coffee for me!

There was a cute little shopping center not too far from the beach where we score the requisite t-shirt at Beach Bums. Happy are we!

The challenge was getting out of Cape May- since traffic was jammed and rerouted due to some sort of bridge being closed. We sat in traffic for an hour only to be circled back again. Luckily, the drive home wasn't too bad and Libby got to see the New Jersey pine barrens- home of the NJ Devil.

PostScript: Oh yes, Elizabeth's first surprise was having to pay to get on the beach and wearing your beach tag!

DANSKO Outlet Store

This mermaid is a lovely reminder of Denmark. She welcomes all guests to the store!

My sprained ankle reminded me that I needed some new sandals with decent foot support so off to the Dansko outlet!

I love this place! They are dog friendly and so in the past, Fawnie has been to Dansko too ! Proceeds from this outlet store all go to support charities. 

Most of all, the inside is clean, spacious, and well organized. This makes shoe shopping a breeze! Oh , and by the way, this outlet is located in Jennersville, PA... Well worth the drive!

Wilmington & Western Railroad

Such a great way to start the day... On my way in to work this morning this historic train stopped traffic on Lancaster Pike. A train load of school children on a field trip... Happily waving to all of us stopped in traffic. I wonder how many people have never ever ridden a train? Has train travel become a romantic notion of the past?

Fawnie's Office

Fawn has taken up residence in her office and refuses to come out unless she feels like it!

Wicked Strong

It's the 140th Kentucky Derby today and so my Kentucky hubby and I are glued to watching Derby happenings on the telly. My picks are Wicked Strong to win and California Chrome to place. 

Love watching all the hats-- one of these years I'm going to wear a magnificent hat just while watching this! 

Easter Sunrise Mass 2014

Up at 0430 to walk the dog and get ready for the 0600 Easter Sunrise Mass at St. Anthony in the Hills. It's an outdoor coliseum and always cold this early, so everyone shows up carrying blankets and snugly bundled in winter's warmest! It dark as a long line of car lights snail through the path to find a parking space near the top.

A pink sunrise-- what is that old expression? "Red sky in the morn and sailors take warn?" Hope we don't get bad weather coming our way- we've had enough this past winter...

The mass begins with the Bible story of the crucifixion on the old spectacle/pageant style...

Someone in the area must have a chicken coop because a rooster crows throughout the mass...

We head off to Perkins for breakfast. Happy Easter everyone!
