Fetch and Carry

It's holiday break and that means fetching Sophia from the city and delivering the cat to a friend's care. We stopped for lunch in Brooklyn at Bare Burgers- amazing hamburgers and sweet potato fries! (There goes the diet!).
Great mushroom burger!
Buse street traffic on this beautiful day! The temps were close to 70 F and everywhere families were walking their babies and children...
Magnificent brownstones!
Wonderful daughter!

Twilight Tour Part 2

This twilight tour was great for taking pictures-- the light was perfect and lent a mood to these shots as you can see...

Great view of the lower Manhattan skyline and the Freedom Tower. It's a mixed bag of old and new, rich and poor...
 View of Stuyvesant Town.

Lower Manhattan along the East River.
View of the Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn.

This is a famous pizza place and supposedly all sort of famous celebrities have eaten here. the line goes waaaay out the door!
View of the new freedom tower (on the site of the World Trade Center)...

Love the grey tones in this skyline view from the Brooklyn side!

Once the lights turned on, the magic began...

Loved this tour! I know most people mock tours but I like them because a good tour guide can be so much more informative than trying to do this on your own.

Twilight Tour of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn

One of the joys of attending a conference is to take any free time you have and do some sight-seeing. From a sociological perspective, any big city is fertile ground... but this evening i just decided to focus on the skyline and so I took one of those double-decker Grayline tours. I'll let the pictures below speak for themselves...

The famous Flatiron building.

This Chinese pagoda is home to Starbucks on the ground floor!

These buildings are home to sweat shops near Canal Street...

Canal Street is at the very lower level of Manhattan.
In the next post I will continue the tour as we went into Brooklyn,
