Am I Clever, Or What?

Now that I'm back into swimming, there is the issue of being able to lock my valuables in the Women's Locker Room lockers. I've forgotten the combination to the lock I used last Fall, so I bought a new one, and after one time (basically one use), I forgot the combination!!!

So what to do? Well, I came up with what I thought was a clever idea... I bought some cheap flip-flops and with a Sharpie wrote the combination on the sole of my flip-flops. Sharpie ink never wears off-- or so it says. Guess this will be the test.

Let's see how this works next week- maybe I'll also write the combination in the hem of my towel-- that way I'll have extra insurance that I won't forget it. Stay tuned... :)

After Dinner Coffee-- and Mosquitos :(

We have just a little while after we have dinner to enjoy sitting in the backyard to drink our coffee before the mosquitos move in... after a few very hot and humid days, these backyard moments are precious...

Hot, Hot, HOT- Summer in Delaware

The temp has cooled a bit-- down to 89 today but the humidity is high. I love summer, but the temps and humidity can get uncomfortably hot. We went from having a long, cold winter, to no spring, and now a hot summer. Last week we enjoyed a few wonderful evenings of drinking our evening coffee in the yard, but now it's back to living in an air conditio

ned environment.

"Doctoring" Away This Summer- Light At the End of the Tunnel?

The challenge of working toward earning a doctorate is that it never seems to end!

Sometimes life gets in the way and it's easy to get derailed. Going down rabbit holes... not the best approach but I have learned more than I have room for in my brain! Sometimes I feel like my harddrive-brain is full. However, my day in Ashburn yesterday was very productive as my Chair and I reviewed my writing in detail. The revisions will be made soon and then on to the next chapter!...

Perhaps I'm beginning to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunell after all... :)

The Pool at the HAC

Even though I'm a lousy swimmer I really enjoy swimming in the pool at my club! It's a salt water pool. I haven't been in months, but my recent efforts to get back into motion, first by walking everyday and now adding swimming to the mix, makes me feel good. As they say "a body in motion stays in motion" and I know I need to keep moving just to keep from getting stiff! My poor arthritic ankles do so much better h=when I walk and swim-- and even the rotator cuff tear appears to heal after a while :). I'm just lucky in that we have such a great athletic club in the area-- and everytime I do go, I thank my lucky stars for it. There's just something about being in the water that seems to restful and soothing-- even when working up a sweat and doing those laps!

Gentle Summer Days

Gentle Summer Days-- The temperatures hovered near 100 degrees last week, but this week we've had the most perfect week of gentle, cool summer evenings that we all long for in the depth of winter. Phillip has been working in the yard-- trimming trees, tending to his vegetable gardens, and cleaning up the front yard flower beds. The yard has never looked so good! Fawn has benefited by spending more time outside than she ever has :).
How nice to be able to enjoy summer naps in fresh grass! The life of a dog... the life of perfect summer days... we have so few of them as it's usually too hot, too humid, or there are too many mosquitos-- we'll enjoy this while we can!

A Segment of American History- The Civil Was Battle at Gettysburg

The Battle at Gettysburg was the turning point in the American Civil War, also know as the was between the states. This was a war in which brother fought against brother, and almost broke the United States of America in two. More than any other war, this war is studied in history classes. It is almost unfathomable to think that 53,000 troops died here over 2 days of fighting. The Confederate soldiers cam charging across flat farmlands charging Union forces poised on top of a hill. It's also mind-boggling how far north the Conferederate troops came given the nature of how troops moved in the 1860's. I learned so much about battles and battle strategy this afternoon-- and it was great to be with colleagues who were so knowledgeable!
